Moving into a new house is a very exciting time. With so much going on, it can be easy to forget that some parts of your new home’s plumbing will need checking to make sure they work properly, and that you know where everything is.
To help you out, here are 6 things you should do for your plumbing when you move into your new home.
• Where Is The Stop Cock?
Usually this will be located under the sink, under the stairs or in a garage, but the last thing you want in an emergency is to be searching for it.
• Does The Boiler Have A Good Service History?
How old is the boiler in your new home, and when was it last serviced? You’ll need to know its service history so that you can keep the schedules checks going.
• Check Your Cold-Water Tank.
The cold-water tank in your loft should have a lid on it to prevent contamination. If it doesn’t, you’ll need the tank cleaned or replaced.
• Check The Water Pressure.
Turn on the tap furthest away from the water source. What is the water pressure like? Low pressure can be fixed with new showerheads or taps.
• Do You Have Lead Pipes?
Older properties tend to have lead pipes, which are unsafe for pregnant women and children to drink from.
• Do Your General Checks.
When you first move in, do some general checking on toilets, taps and radiators for leaks, water stains and mould. If you need any help checking the plumbing in your new home, just give us a call.
